No problems at all, other than the pain of the procedure.
In 1999 I had my first screening, under sedatives. I was happy with it. After that the same doctor did it again, in 2001, with GA. For that and other reasons it was a disaster. My subsequent tests have, under my protests, been with GA. I felt less than 100% for days and I usually bounce back fast.

Sometimes easier said than done.

Not to mention the cavalier attitude displayed about "not being worth it to have a procedure" which may, depending on the procedure, detect a condition that will sooner or later kill the patient if it is not treated. Thinking of the colonoscopy I had last year that picked up a cancerous colon mass that no one, not me, my family, the involved doctors ever dreamed I would have, considering it had just been 4 years since the previous colonoscopy.

You never think you will be the one this happens to, just some stranger you may read or hear about.

Folks need to stop hearing what they think a person says and ask instead of making a quick judgement. I for one am not against the practice of the medical staff requiring one to have a person being there to secure you a safe ride home when one will have to go be given anesthesia or whatever may make the patient less capable of traveling alone after any procedure. What I felt is that, I wouldn't ever have a type of procedure that I had with the facet injections without the medicine that would lessen the pain of the procedure. I wouldn't ever avoid a necessary procedure just because of the requirement, I would find a way to abide by the required protocols.

The good thing is many of the medical hospitals and clinics will allow many of the procedures if you have a prearranged ride with a licensed transport company. I had to have several of the facet injection and other medical procedures over the years and as long as I had a company they could contact and speak with guaranteeing my ride home, I was good to go. As long as they can confirm your ride home, more often than not, it seems they will allow it depending on the procedure.

This is true, I have had many medical procedures over the years including several colonoscopies and at the same time endoscopies, they just held me at the hospital for a number of hours after all was done and then allowed me to go home unescorted and I'm not talking about quack hospitals either.

i dont know where many of you are but where I live friends that had colonscopies didnt have any anes. no when it was over they waited in recovery and then left and drove home. Ditto for cataract surgeries, very little sedation at all, many dental surgeries and other non invasive surgeries. If you want anes, fine but stop assuming that many procedures require it. They dont. This isnt like having your appendix out for gods sake. and to the people who think those of us are so foolish not to have these procedures done, maybe you should realize there are people that die from anesth and the administration of drugs. The procedure isnt worth the risk. And if the procedure finds cancer? for some of us nothing is going to be done anyway, cause they will kill us with the drugs. So take your one size fits all mentally somewhere else.

I agree. Personally, I've found licensed medical transport companies to be the best solution when an escort is required to stay onsite during a procedure. I've used friends on occasion, but things can come up in their personal lives as well. I also had an Uber appointment prearranged for a follow up appointment to the eye doctor where I knew I'd have my eyes dilated and not be able to drive as they'd be super sensitive to the sun even with sunglasses. Uber cancelled just before they were supposed to pick me up, so I had to bang on a neighbor's door and beg her for a ride, which she graciously provided. But, if she hadn't been home, I'd have been SOL. With medical transport, you know they'll be there on time for sure, plus they're licensed and insured. Sure, it costs, but sometimes such services are worth it.

Another thing is that a lot of Medicare Advantage companies will cover medical transportation. I have a friend in FL who has this perk since she doesn't drive due to vision problems.

Driver has to stay there the whole time.
Who runs that outpatient surgery center, Nurse Ratched?

When I took my spouse for his colonoscopy, I was told to drop him off and they would call me when it was done. So I went shopping.

I had an endoscopy and had to ask a friend to come. They wouldn’t even take me back until she had signed in and agreed to sit there through the whole procedure. The parking at the hospital is horrible and I think it took her 15 minutes to drop me off, find a space, and actually get to the procedure waiting room.

I had rotator cuff surgery, day surgery. Was informed I had to have someone there when I checked in who would drive me home and stay with me.

At 5:00 pm I was vomiting so hard my chest hurt. They shoved me out the door anyway. Gave me a number to call.

My husband drove me home and fell asleep in front of the TV.

It was a horrible night. I called the number and got an answering service who said someone would call.

No one did.

There is no evidence that they were concerned about my well being.
