For those with acid reflux/GERD when you lay down at night does your breath feels like it gets took away for a second? I had to start sleeping inthe chair because it would do it to me some nights. Itll do it just for a second or 2 until I move.
I've had GERD for over a decade. The most negative effect was that I would sometimes wake up with a sinus cavity burning with stomach acid. Many solutions for GERD, from Omeprazole to weight loss to sleeping on an incline.
I did experience waking up and not being able to take a breath. Once was so bad that I couldn't catch a breath and I rolled off the bed; hitting the floor broke something loose in my throat and I was able to breath again. I was later diagnosed with sleep apnea; a CPAP machine solved the issue for me, but sleeping in an upright position can also help.
Acid reflux is well known to brng on bronchospasm (asthma). A little bit of acidic stomach contents that makes its way to the back of the throat is then aerosolized as you take a breath (works like an old perfume atomizer) and you inhale the irritating acid droplets.
An albuterol inhaler will treat the sob & wheezing/coughing, but better to prevent it by taking acid inhibitors (Zantac etc), avoid eating/drinking for at least 2 hrs before retiring, raising the head of the bed 6 inches, and weight loss in general.
Not on me. I get that acid coming up at nite sometimes. I think it depends if i eat something sweet that i notice it. I take a pill everyday for heartburn but get acid coming up at nite once in a while.
