When your DD had the swollen node, was it because of a cold/virus?
My son had one for awhile. The doctor said it was probably because he had just gotten over a cold/sore throat.

Usually nodes swell on the tail end or after the cold. They swell as the drainage/cold flushes out of that part of his/her body.

I noticed my dd's node when her cold was clearing and it lasted for a long time. It was a nasty cold...and she had some sinus trouble too.

This thread is causing me have flashbacks to childhood maladies Makes me think of the differences between how things were treated "back then", compared to today. I think Dr.s are less invasive about treatments today.

After several bouts of swollen glands (they are painful), my doctor shrugged and said "let's take out the tonsils and adenoids. that'll fix her up." He then said to my mother "you have another youngster just a bit smaller? Bring him in too. Might as well have his out and get it all done in one big swoop." My brother never had any health issues, yet it was considered a rite of childhood that tonsils invariably came out. Like baby teeth, I guess.

A swollen lymph node usually just means it is doing it's job. Probably nothing to worry about. He could have been exposed to a cold virus or something and the immune system is doing its job. When you need to worry is if that lump ever becomes hard, or excessively swells, or his lymph nodes stay swollen for a long period of time. Just a few being swollen for a breif period of time is nothing to worry about.

Definately take him to the doctor. Our DD had one also, in the same place as your son, when she was three. I thought the worst naturally and DH cried himself to sleep that night. The next day I took her in and they did a strep test. It was positive. There had been no fever, no other symptoms, nothing. It indeed may not be strep, but I would still have it checked out because you don't want to mess with strep.
