Are all urologists and their offices jerks? Is it something to do with the type of practice of medicine that causes this?

My husband is in dire need of a good urologist, one that is not patronizing or dismissive of his pain. One who's office does not put him through rings of fire ("well, you need to see your original surgeon", "why do you want a second opinion?", "what exact problems are you having?" --- this all coming from some front desk twit who really has no business asking).

He was trying to see a third doc when the office totally screwed up his appt. Now they are trying to get an on call doc to see him, but it won't be the specialist he was trying to see. The first doc he saw seemed to only have minutes to spare for every appt. and rushed everything. It was horrible. This has been really hard for us.

Thanks for your post. My husband can hardly get past the front desk to see one. We are beginning to wonder if it's the type of medicine that carries this type of rudeness and non-caring, ironic though it may be.

Well, my experience with them says they are. My husband was diagnosed in 2006 with prostate cancer. We saw several urologists and thought they were all jerks. Then where my husband had his treatment, we met many other patients who also felt their urologists were jerks. You are not alone. But then I feel the same about doctors in general.

I'm with you there.

True about jerk docs in general. I somehow got extremely lucky and found a wonderful gyn, and our reg. doc is just fine too.

Problem is, my husband is in pain and we are worried something's going on. He had the big V back in March and almost right away knew something was wrong. His first doc claimed epididymitis and told him to stay in bed. But he was not clear about that at all, in fact we thought it was ok for him to go to work, so he did, then had pain and came back home.

He got over it in about a month and everything was ok. Then 2 weeks ago he moved some heavy stuff for me and is right back where he is in pain. We are worried it might be something else, but he can't find a doc to save his life!

Sure sucks.

I went to the ER and they thought I had epidydmitis too. After a course of antibiotics, it wasn't better. Went to the dr because there was a small lump. Promptly went for an ultrasound. Went to specilaist and he said it was a varicocele which is not much too worry about. It really doesn't bother me anymore.

He had the ultrasound too. Doc said epididymitis was not swollen. He put him through two kinds of antibiotics, didn't get better. He saw a 2nd doc who said, well, you'll just have to deal with the pain and that was that. He's looking for a 3rd opinion. We are both worried that maybe it has nothing to do with the V at all. Oh and doc #2 said granuloma. I think variocele and granuloma are in the same families.

So groove, how long did it take you to get over the pain?

I think my body just adjusted to it. I was in a lot of pain at first and for a couple of months, but I can't say it's bothered me much since. Hardly ever notice it, but then again I had a slew of stomach issues that probably superceded it.

He can't think of one thing that was bothering him before the surgery. And with the aftermath, he totally regrets it. Although I have reminded him that I'm getting to the point where I'm really bad with the Pill and it was only a matter of time before, whoops! And we def. don't want that!

I'm worried about him, but there's not much for me to do. Thanks groove.
