Are there any guidelines that define "excessive exercise"? Forgive me if it's in your links. No time to read through it right now.

Heck my blood pressure will come close to that every time I go to the doctor. I have white coat syndrome really bad. I purchased a blood pressure wrist cuff, had it measured against the one my doctor uses, and I take my own BP at home. I rarely get over 120/75.

Buy your own and learn to use it correctly at home. I paid about $80 for mine. Sit calmly for 10 minutes before using it and see what you get. Keep a record for the doctor. I had to do this as everyone kept telling me I had borderline high blood pressure. Now my doctor knows this is not the case.

If it is consistently high, then your husband should do the things needed to lower it naturally. The last thing you want to start is medication. Try this first.

I agree with most of the others in that doesn't seem high to me. I would get a bp cuff and take it at different times of the day and both arms to get a more accurate reading. You can't determine someone has high bp from one office visit. I know alot of people have white coat syndrome which causes it to go up.

You may want to consider getting a scan done to see if there is any arterial buildup / calcification that may be contributing to the BP numbers. If the heart has to pump harder to get thru a smaller space in the blood vessels, then the BP will show that.

I knew of someone who had BP numbers in that range - she had a scan done & caught some plaque building her blood vessels. Heart was working harder to get blood thru smaller pathways. She has since worked with her doctor to reduce the calcification & her health has improved.

Lola8822, How is his height and weight ratio. I had a BP of 180 / 140 but I weighed in at 154.4. They put me on Altace. 36 lbs later I am 129/79 and was taken off the Altace last Monday. Just a thought. Good luck with the BP.

Yes, but not with a dieratic (sorry about the spelling). I mean I did not have to run to the ladies room every 10 minutes. I had a good experience with Altace. I just know that I caused my BP problem because I gained to much weight. I am only 5'3" and 154.4 on my small frame. By the way my Cholestrol (229) went down 50 points also with the weight loss.

Dammm, mine was once at 175/130 and they didn't do a thing about it. I now am on two meds and it fluctuates around 155/110.

With this kind of number, cutting out salt is the best thing he can do. He should be monitored and if he continues to get higher readings medication will knock it right down. However, once he is diagnosed with high blood pressure and on meds, this will severely impact whether or not he will ever be able to get low priced medical insurance again. Next time he goes to put salt on something, ask him if it's worth paying $1000. a month to get medical coverage.
