oooo owch....that's kinda extreeme....I've taken a perkiset (sp) every now and again for really bad cramps but never heard of that.....Doesn't sound very safe
I would NEVER take prozac for pms! That is terriably extreem and will probably end up causing you more problems that the pms. Besides, are you suppose to take it until you quit having periods? I suggest you see a OB-GYN who should have a better way.... If your OB-GYN is the one suggesting this, I would find another one!
Yeh,,,my mom and the 70's
But it was the 70's....Pills-a-plenty
Prozac can make you gain a lot of weight and thin your hair.
Not everyone..but just a FYI
If its that extreme your overall health should be looked at.
And until them yogi tea makes some great teas for PMS and for chilling out too.
They have a website if you want to google it.
I used to get horrible PMS when I was young, cramps, cold sweats, emotional mood swings, the whole works. I also would get RAVENOUSLY hungry and want to eat bigger meals than usual.
The things that helped me were --
--jumping in a hot bathtub at my earliest convenience
--not eating heavy foods, but eating all the raw vegetable salads I like
Other advice I did not necessarily follow at the time:
--cutting out coffee / alcohol / sweets
I would be very afraid of Prozac or any prescription anti-depressant, but of course there are appropriate times for people to go ahead and try those things, but I understand they are very difficult to get off of, with very serious withdrawal side effects.
If you feel emotional upsets as well as the physical problems, perhaps some St. John's Wort would help too. I used to take that and the effect if one existed at all was so subtle I could not tell for sure if it was helping me but I took it for a long time -- a liquid glycerin extract type.
Drink lots of water, and hot herbal teas are great. I occasionally take an Advil or something these days if I have some physical discomfort but it's not usually bad enough to want to take anything for it anymore.
I was recently prescribed Zoloft for menopause. My doctor told me that anti-depressants are being prescribed more and more for menopause and pms. I questioned her and talked to others. This seems to be a fairly new thing. For me it has been good overall.
