I have been diagnosed with Human Parvo since September of this year. My symptoms began as a horrible cold, then promply moved into the most delightful series of painful swollen joints and joint pain. For me, it was primarily all the large joints (shoulders, hips and knees) at first. Each day (as my condition worsened) the pain became unbearable, until finnally, I was put on Prednisone. I suppose there are no secrets what this drug will do for you. At first you are Hurcules, then over time you attempt to lessen the dose until the pain is managable with small doses. The real problem (for me anyway), is that this disease seems to play little tricks with how intense the pain will be from day to day. After nearly five months (and I know many of you have suffered far worse for far longer) I am really getting "tired" for lack of a better term. My PCP has suggested that the virus is most likely "long gone" and my body is simply fighting something that is not there (autoimmune I guess) Anyone ???

Anyone looking at this link, please RUN don't walk and find yourself a LYME LITERATE Doctor. People with Parvo, Epstein Barr, Herpes 6, and Cytomegalaviruses often have Lyme Disease and don't know it...which could account for your lingering symptoms.

Lyme is transmitted via a tick bite, but many people do not recall being bitten or get the standard "bull's eye" rash that often accompanies the disease.

Other symptoms of Lyme:
Low grade fever
Migrating joint pain
Stomach pains
Pain under ribs
Malaise
Heightened sensitivity to light, detergents, noise
Rashes of unknown origin
Unexplained weight gain/loss
Disrupted menstrual cycle

To find a Lyme Literate doctor in your area, go here [mod] sorry, too new to post links [/mod]

I'm glad to read all the comments, and sad too. I am trying to find out what is wrong with me. My PMD is awesome - he's the one that ordered the Parvo test. Bummer to see it's positive. I am in denial that I have a chronic disease. I also have a high pressure job and am a single mom and sole income. I just don't have the patience or the time to feel bad. I ask that you all keep posting. For us new Parvo victims, your words, experience and suggestions are very valuable and appreciated!

Default Update

Just thought I would let everyone know what I have learned the hard way. For over seven months now I have been of the notion that I am suffering from Parvo. Finnally, after all this time taking prednisone, and not getting any better, I decided (at the insistance of my very smart spouse) to seek a third medical opinion. The infectious disease specialist that saw me stated " you don't have Parvo, and probably never did". Consequently, he cannot definatively say what is causing my ailments. He suspects Osteoarthritis but wont know for sure until I ween-off the steroids. The very treatment that never should have been perscribed in the first place. I really think with the multitude of strange ailments in addition to sore joints (soreness that still moves from one joint to the next) that Lyme is a strong possibility. Although I have been tested twice (with negative results) the new specialist has just ordered another Western Blot on me. probably to shut me up. I really don't think Osteoarthritis comes on so fast (overnight, literally) and causes so many other issues. Believe me, I have read extensively about the stand-off within the medical comunity regarding Lyme disease and how to test and treat it. I am not hoping that Lyme is the culprit, only that a competent medical professional diagnose this soon. Good luck to all you...

I know this is an old thread and im not quite sure how this works as i've never joined a discussion forum before so please bare with me! It is such a relief to finally read that im not the only person experiencing this. I was diagnosed nearly 2years ago with parvovirus when i became seriously unwell during pregnancy and it unfortunately killed my unborn baby girl. I've never properly recovered in that i have constant painful joints, tiredness ect... My doctor knows nothing about the long term symptoms and just keeps saying it will pass..i feel trapped in this sore tired body. What i would give to feel like my old self again..... I've just found out im pregnant again and im terrified the same thing could happen...any advice or info would be desperately welcomed???

I have been suffering with fatique and muscle pain for almost a year. At times the pain and fatique has been so bad I could hardly function! I have been to one specialist and then another and another searching for answers. Just when I was about to loose hope, I found a Dr. that would acually listen! Tests show I have the Parvo virus.. well atleast it is a start to a possible answer.. it also showed a compromised weak immune system. How does that happen? How do you fix it? Does Parvo weaken the immune system or do you get Parvo because the immune system is already weak? I am on a mission to feel better and will not give up until it happens.. If anyone has any suggestions please pass them on, I will do the same as I get results..

I am trying to find information about Parvo that shows long term effects, but everything I have found says that the Parvovirus clears within a few months at the most. I have been feeling joint pain, headaches, shakes, bruising, dizziness, sharp under rib pains, shortness of breath, etc for about 4 months now. I went to my PCP about 2 months ago, and was referred to a rheumatologist... That appointment was FINALLY today and she believes that I have Parvo (that I would have gotten from my 2 year old that had a full body rash about a week before my symptoms started). It was a relief to have a possible answer because the symptoms are real but didn't fit any other mold that was suggested (arthritis, fibromyalsia, lupus, multiple sclerosis, etc...) but this site has me worried that it could be long term (ie; forever) where the specialist said I sound like it is on its way out of my system even though I am still having flares of joint pain...

ANY details, likes, suggested reading, etc would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

No, it is not the same strain as canine parvo.
