My wife was sick for about 9 days straight and had to go to the emergency room twice, got a Cat scan, was given a dilodid (sp??)shot in her hip, a morphine drip, then on another occasion a dilodid drip... didn't touch her pain, then given some valium and that finally knocked her out.
She was taking Afrin spray and sudafed under the doctor's order, and of course antibiotics in case it was a sinus infection.
Two different doctors said she had constant migraine symptoms with soreness in her head, neck and upper back.
Finally a doctor gave her a migraine prescription, but told her to take migraine Excedrin first.
She took the Excedrin and her pain was gone and she was finally back on her feet. We still don't know if it was caused by a sinus infection or what.
My migraines last about 4 to 8 hours tops, but 8 days?
Plain old Excedrin Migraine. It costs less than $3.00 for 24. Wouldn't it be funny if this was the best cure. Don't need no doctor to get the prescription either.
Hubby too has had it since a teen and he's now in his 50's. Was on Imitrex just once and he begged out due to palpitations. All kinds of beta blockers as well as Topamax but he's got side effects on those too. Only thing that works is Fiorinals (butalbital). When it gets really bad, he takes really hot showers, practically scalding his scalp. What helps him is my massaging his foot on pressure points at the inside of his arch. I read this on a book on reflexology. In our life together, I have only had to take him once to the ER for a shot of demerol. He was worse than a woman in labor while I was driving him there...screaming in the car all the time, with every bump on the road resulting in more screaming. I really feel bad for all chronic migraine sufferers. My father in law had once suggested feverfew (from GNC) but we've never had a chance to try that. Seems like he gets more of them in the fall for some reason. Oh, and nothing but nothing works for the clusters!

Well, I get them really bad... I have two kids and after each of them I went a spell where I had two months for the youngest, and three for my first born where I actually had a migraine everyday... the intensity changed from day to do but the headache stayed for months... MRIs/CTs...blood tests... the whole nine yards... I actually got relief from (if you get sick from medical stuff you might want to skip this) a shot in the two nerves at the base of my skull of cortizone and novocaine... it is VERY painful and makes me pass out (I think from the anxiety of the process and the pain- I don't do that well)... SO... I actually do everything I can to NOT have to go through that crap again... hubby thinks I am crazy and thinks the shot is the best thing.... I tell him to get them for me then LOL... I actually need to get back on a preventative med... I am thinking of giving Topamax another shot... I have been getting these headaches much more frequenlty and i do not want another month or more long migraine... The last SEVERE one I had crawled down my neck and ended up in my Spine (in January)... it was horrible.... only lasted three weeks... went to get massages, chiropractor, yoga... nothing workd...So... the preventative is looking pretty good again... I just hate taking meds everyday... and I get nervous about the long term effects...
My husband gets migraines and it is literally destroying our marriage. He is supposed to take midrin as a preventative (if he remembers) and has Maxalt for "last- minute" relief.
I have the following questions:
#1: I've read about how magnesium, the cleanse, and bc powder works for some on this thread. Where should I start?
#2: Does anyone have a history of getting a migraine so badly that they punch objects? I have this problem with my husband. The anger seems to be directly related to the migraines, but I'd like to hear if from someone else.
I have no knowledge of the cleanse,so can't comment on that. Magnesium is safe and necessary for our bodies so can't hurt to try that. Read the labels to see how much and how often. I take 1000 milligrams a day and when I slack off for awhile the migraines come back. Sometimes though, even when I'm taking the magnesium regularly I will encounter the deadly perfume/cologne which sends me to migraine hell and sometimes the ER!!!! However I grab my BC powder in an attempt to avoid the pain and the expense of the ER. Powders typically work within 15 minutes.

I know what you mean about feeling like you are admitting defeat. It's sort of like a guy asking directions when he is totally lost but will not... You know how they will burn a tank of gas trying to find a place.. Well go to the Dr to make sure it is not something even worse. I finally went with my back and can now get up and down without unbearable pain. Took me weeks to break down and go and now I feel like a complete fool for not going sooner. Please get well soon. Your kids need ya running full speed and some of here on the forum need you to keep us in line too.....

I hope those kettle chips are not in any way part of the problem. I doubt they are. My mother's come and go regardless of diet. Hers started in high school long before any of our modern day foods were invented. She ate nothing but home grown at the time because that's all they had.
