I came home at midnight last night after attending a work event that had lots of conflict, talking and general stimuli. I came home and was all keyed up and tried to relax for awhile.

Finally at 1:00 AM I decided it was time to go to bed. I laid there thinking, "I got to fall asleep, I got to fall asleep, I got to fall asleep!!"

Of course I did not fall asleep until about 4:00 AM and the alarm went off at 6:00. I feel like a zombie.

Can you fall asleep if you come home late and are tired, but...?

Depends. I can be completely wiped out and exhausted, but still have a lot on my mind. In that case, I can't sleep despite how sleepy I am. Drives my crazy too - because I just want to fall asleep and get some rest.

Usually what happens is I fall asleep within an hour or so of when my alarm will go off - then I am sound asleep - sleeping like a baby. Then I struggle getting up and fell exhausted most the day.

On the other hand, if I my mind isn't clear, I can usually go right to sleep - especially if I have had a glass of wine or two earlier

I feel your pain, many times if I come home and have had a really wired day, it's hard for me to unwind. On the other hand, when I'm at home just relaxing and watching television, then I'm ready for bed and fall right to sleep.

Usually not because I am all wound up. I come home late (11pm) two nights a week. I'm tired but can't sleep. I have to get on my arcade forums and play several Mahjongg games until I get really sleepy.
