I fell last week and really badly hit the area just below my knee.
A bruise appeared which although was large and really dark was not really that surprising.
Now the bruise has continued down my shin and there is a spongy area where I originally hit it.
Is this normal? Don't really want to disturb the Doc if it's nothing.

leaking sinovial fluid maybe ? Either that or you are just bruising really bad. I would not worry about it though. If the bruising and that soft mushy spot does not improve in 7 days, then I would make an appointment with your doc.
