DALLAS (AP) — A woman says she waited 19 hours at Parkland Memorial Hospital's emergency department for treatment of a broken leg and never did get to see a doctor — but still got a bill for $162.

Amber Joy Milbrodt, who said she broke a bone in her leg while playing volleyball, received the bill two weeks after her Sept. 24 visit.

Just read it, there is another part to this story that is more shocking

Quote:
A few days before Milbrodt's visit, a 58-year-old man who went to the ER with stomach pains also waited 19 hours — and then suffered cardiac arrest and died.

When I had my daughter, I was billed for two births. I suppose some people don't look closely at their bills and that could have been missed.

I was wondering how much it cost to have a child.... I told my insurance company.

I suppose this is how hospitals get around the law.

That's like the old joke about the pro golfer's wife who went into labor. The baby came so quick that he was born in the lawn of the hospital. When the golfer got the bill for a huge sum for use of the hospital services and delivery room, he called raising hell. The hospital took the bill back. A couple weeks later the golfer received another bill for the exact same amount...for green fees!

ALWAYS request and review a hospital bill. Some insurances will give you the diffence if you find an overcharge
