I had the real flu last year and was sick enough not to leave the house at all for 10 days, then coughed afterwards for two or three weeks. My husband also had the real flu.
We will not be getting the flu shots. Yes, we were miserable. But the flu vaccine has its own risks, one of which is that it's not for the strain that will be going around anyway.
I had the flu shot ONCE while in college. And guess what? I got the flu!! I was sick in bed for weeks. I had never been that sick before and haven't been as sick since. I will NEVER have that flu shot again! NEVER. My little boy had the flu really bad when he was 3! Took him right to the doctor within 24 hours and he got the antiviral meds. Hasn't had it again...knock on wood!!

Flu shot doesn't cause the flu....not possible but common misconception
I was sure that I read a few years back, that a cancer strain was added to the vaccine, but upon looking right now, don't see it as being an ingredient.
I've been wondering about this, too, lately.
I believe that I had the "real" flu (influenza) once about 8 years ago. Really sick for about 2 weeks and lingering cough, etc. That's the only time I got it and I have never had a flu shot in my life.
I went to my doctor recently and he suggested it - it's free and I can stop in anytime to get one. He recommends it. I don't much like the idea but I don't know if there are really good/sound reasons for me not to get the shot. Are there?
I normally get one every year as required by work. I am not working right now and I do not have health insurance. So... nope, not this year.
