YES, I have noticed they're not as good as they should be. I have been to quite a few over the years who do not seem to know what I have and seem to GUESS at what the solution might be. This has been the case for problems as simple as sinus infections, to as complicated as hip surgery. There have been times I have been WORSE off after I've seen a doctor compared to before I saw him or her. I could have saved time and money if I handled the problem myself or saw someone else for it. I don't know if it's just me or what, but I seem to get stuff that baffles them. They should at least consult someone else if they are lost as to what to do.
If you're not happy with your doc find a new one. My old practice was ok, they were smart but they were so backed up. A new manager added more to their loads and they had no time to spend with patients. I transferred to a different practice and *told* the old firm why I left. Shortly thereafter all of their docs left (within a 4 month period).
My new practice pushes preventative maintenance. My insurance company covers yearly checkups - I had no idea until they told me about it! Now I go yearly and get everything done in one visit. Since then - it's been 9 years - I've been to them twice for non checkup items. They have a triage nurse who will help you over the phone and each day one doctor is available for emergencies.
One thing I've started to do is take notes if I have to go in. Not feeling well? I write down what I'm feeling or what I want looked at and hand it to the check-in person. She puts it with my chart and my nurse and doc can look it over before they see me. No more forgetting stuff, it's a time saver for me and they like it (it was the doc's idea).
i am seriously relieved but at the same time more disgusted that other poeple elsewhere are experiencing the same crap medical i have... relieved i am not alone, and disgusted cuz this shouldnt happen, sounds to me like doctors anymore are pretty much a joke, and unless you find a good one should actually be avoided... another good example is the fact that my one brother, who now can barely hear even with hearing aids, could have great hearing... if it werent for a doctor not mistreating his ear infection... was told this by the one good doctor we have ever had.... so yeah could possibly be better off self treating than going to some of these docs
