I'm a normal healthy male of 51 years (at least I think I am healthy, I certainly feel OK). Over the last few years, for some reason, my beard, which was always pretty full, has quit growing in the center of my cheeks, and my moustache only wants to grow right in the middle of the upper lip, sort of like Hitler.....

I'm taking Propecia, MPB runs in the family, but so far between Propecia, Rogaine, and probably good luck I have a good full head of hair. I mention the Propecia in case it may have something to do with reducing beard growth, preventing the production of DHT from ordinary testosterone.

Is this a symptom of something?

If it's a side effect of Propecia, I guess I am OK with it, scalp hair is more important to me than beard hair.

I know nothing about this, so this is only an opinion - ok?

I would think that if the loss of hair (facial) has been getting worse over the last couple of years that it is probably due to MPB, but I have seen people with bald heads yet with facial hair too so I dont know whether one disappearing means that you automatically get the other disappearing too.

Maybe try to tie up the starting of medication with the loss of facial hair and see if the two happened at the same time, if not then perhaps they are not connected.

I dont know what Propecia is or what it is for, but when all is said and done, it is how you feel about hair loss that really matters. It is true to say that, generally, people without facial hair look younger so you might want to consider this in the next few years.
