One of my neighbors whom I have known since her childhood has had both legs amputated due to infections from diabetes..She does very well on two prosthetics She had physical therapy both times to help her adjust..Both prosthetics feel and look very natural
She is an amazing person and has been such a blessing to so many people with her great faith and wonderful personality..She was given her brothers perfectly matched kidney 20 years ago when one after another of hers failed..Sadly that kidney is now failing as quickly as her eyesight...
Best of luck to your friend

My Grandma (who I think the world of) lost her leg from the mid thigh down when she was 8 from an auto accident. At first it was hard for her to accept, but she has never let the fact that she has one leg stop her. She has never wanted anyone to think that she had a disability in any way shape or form. They advised her against pregnancy, she had 4 kids (she is very stubborn like that). When I saw her after Christmas, we actually did talk about the amputation. She agreed that they have made leaps and bounds in technology with prostetics and many people are living very normal lives. She has had artificial legs for years (shes in her mid 80's) One thing she did say was that if a prostetic does not fit properly, you know it and when you first get a new leg, there is some getting use to and possibly even some time with a therapist to help you adjust.
I hope this helps.
