... what kind of discomfort, pain, or any other factors should I expect from the process? To be honest, the thought of having a tube stuck up my anus and into my insides extremely frightens me. Can anyone with first-hand experience calm my nerves?

Although I am only in my late 20's, my doctor is referring me to a specialist due to certain symptoms - and said that I'll most likely need a colonoscopy to rule out anything serious, even though I am typically way too young to have possible serious complications of the colon.

The preparation is the part that is a pain. No eating the day before and taking the laxative is no fun. But the procedure is nothing. You'll be out of it, won't feel a thing, and afterwards there is no discomfort whatsoever.

I will second this. The stuff you have to drink and the not eating is the bad part. The procedure is a not a problem.

They give you really good drugs -- you just might feel alittle pressure - going hungry is worse

It will just feel like pooping. Really. The camera is super tiny like a pinky. Good luck with it.

Agree with first post. The worse part is the prep, but the actual procedure is no big thing at all. You'll get good drugs and wake up feeling fine. No problemo. good luck.

I agree with the others who have mentioned you won't feel a thing. I had one done last year and slept through it all and barely remember the whole day for that matter. The prep on the other hand? Not gonna lie. I really really wish I could forget that.

You'll be able to walk normally again after a few weeks.

I have been getting one every five years for the last twenty years. I agree that the worst part is drinking the gallon of laxative, but the procedure itself is never pleasant.

They give me an IV before the procedure begins and they always tell me that I am receiving the maximum dosage of whatever it is, but I have never felt any sedating effects from it and I remain wide awake, alert, and can feel everything, especially when the camera goes around the corners and the nurse pushes on my intestine from the front while the doctor pushes the tube from behind.

I watch the whole procedure on the TV monitor. They found a polyp once and I got to watch as they snipped it off for biopsy.

Just had one of these and felt NOTHING. I suggest you get a new Dr!
