After you've tried the lifestyle changes and a simple diuretic, what's the next choice for a medication with the fewest side effects to lower BP?

Do you have a favorite that's worked great for you?

You should check with your doctor.
Atenolol is good, is a Beta Blocker, but you must understand that their are plenty and I mean plenty of drugs for high pressure and some drugs may be better then other depending on the need of the patient.
Some drugs work better in certain people compared to others, so consulting with a good IM is a good idea, if you dont have an HMO or don't need a referal go to a cardiologist

Reduce your cab intake, exercise and try taking Hawthorn Berry. Try doing those things before seeing a doctor.

Lets not jump to conclusion that the OP is overweight since a lot of thin people have high blood pressure (in relation of carb intake).
Oh, and just because is a all natural product, that doesn't mean is safe (not necessarily talking about Hawthorn Berry but in general).

Who said anything about the OP being overweight?

Hawthorn has been used much longer then anything any doctor could prescribe saftely and effectively.

If the person is not over weight why would you suggest to cut on the carbs??

Just because it has been used for thousand of years doesn't mean anything. Just because cocaine (used for thousand of years) is a natural product doesn't mean is good for you, also just because snakes produce venom and is natural it doesn't mean it won't kill you, my statement is clear.
People think that just because something is natural it means is safe, without actually thinking that almost all drugs that doctors use come from nature. And a lot of natural things are bad for you.

Many medication come from natural substances themselves. They use to recomend fish oil pils to lower chlesteral, but it was found you would have to take like 40 at a time and when you would sweat you smelled like fish. They have pills now that actually have the substances in fish oil that worked that is used by many that can't use the normal drugs because of muscle pain etc as just a expample. Its alwasy best to have a good physican IMO.

Metroporal works well, though it makes you feel a bit drugged for a bit after you start it.

Because excess carbs can raise blood pressure in certain ppl just as high salt. Not too mention most of our society eats too many carbs that we dont need. Its good practice to cut carbs for overall health.

Hawthorn Berry IS safe! I never said ALL natural products are safe but I would put any money that hawthorn is every bit as effective as anything a DR could prescribe and safer.

What Doctors use is far removed from nature. Its altered in more ways then you could imagine. Sounds like the same BS we got told about Splenda "its made from sugar" but in reality its vastly different and even worse for your health if you could imagine.
