I have taken Topamax for a brief period of time (6-8 months) for mood stabilization. It also helped to reduce my cravings for alcohol. Unfortunately it zapped my appetite and I lost weight. (I was already at a low weight, so not good). One thing I noticed was that any type of carbonated beverage tasted horrible, also a possible side effect.

I tapered off the medication when I noticed it was affecting my cognitive function and memory. The "brain fog" was difficult for me and decided to discontinue the med.

If you run a web search, there is plenty of documented info about these side effects.

well I used to take it for migraines and it kept me in a fog too could not take it while at work .so it was pointless for me to have it really . I am thinking it might be different for everyone cause my brother took it for a while and had no side effects at all so go figure I think maybe you should try it and see if it is okay for you I mean it has got to be better than migraines right ? good luck to you .

I take 100mg on a daily basis for migraines and have had no problems. When I first took it I had a very big side effect of icky taste of Diet coke! Thankfully that went away after about two months though. I did lose some weight and I am probably a little skinny but I like that It has helped migraines a lot. I don't think I have been in a brain fog he he at least I hope not
