Just on a side note- we read a National Geographic article a few years ago about all of this. The author went through a series of tests for different man-made chemicals and him and his three-year old daughter had toxic levels of major chemicals, with the highest one being fire retardents. THe article went on to show everything in the house that contain all the chemicals. The biggest hitters were- carpet, mattresses, and upholstered furniture. Europe has banned most of the chemicals that we still use to protect us from ourselves. You can find chemical-free mattresses and upholstery, but it costs a pretty penny. Anyway, to the OP, do what you need to do for your health, you have to live with yourself for the rest of your life! It may be tricky, but you should be able to get out of the lease for health reasons, might be tricky, but possible....
I hate carpeting for various reasons. They are made with chemichals and they trap every form of dirt/bacteria imaginable. If you have allergies capeting is your worst nightmare. Its bad for the environment too...carpeting sux!
