The doc is still trying to figure out what's causing mine. It's been going on close to 6 weeks straight now but I do have an infrequent 5 or 6 year history with it.
This never occured to me til now but starting about 7 or 8 years ago, when things move around me it sometimes makes me lose my balance. For instance, when I raised the beds on the hospital ward, I'd get dizzy. When some things on the computer screen move, it makes me dizzy. I can't figure out which kind of vertigo this is. I've been reading as much as I can find online about it and am following through with doc appts but it's slow going. Thanks for your help.
I have vertigo from time to time mine started about 10yrs ago after a neck injury from a car accident. I'm careful how I sleep, even sitting on the computer will throw it off.

OMG I can't imagine having it that long. I thought I had it a long time, wow. Did yours start out constant, too? I've had about 3 days of relief total since it started. I walk around like I'm drunk sometimes. I noticed having a drink or two relieves the hang-overy feeling I often have but I don't want to make a habit of that. I rarely drink. What does your doc say about you having it for so long? Is there anything that relieves it? Sorry for all the questions.
Positional vertigo is when You move, you get dizzy. I had this, for no reason, with no warning, and have had a few relapses. The first bout of it lasted nearly 3 months, but over that time it got "better" - or I adapted to the feeling and got better at coping.
Then it went away for about a year. Relapse lasted about 10 days. Went away for 2 years. Relapse lasted about 1 week. Went away for about 1.5 years - relapse lasted about 2 days.
I did the exercises (tried to anyway) during the first 3 month episode. But the exercises made me even dizzier!! So that sucked, and I wasn't very faithful about doing them... maybe it would have gone away sooner - who knows.
Good luck with it. I'm really glad I haven't had an episode in a while, but I did notice that when I had the relapses they were never as bad as that original episode.

Sorry maybe I wasn't real clear, Just checked back over to see if you had gotten anymore posts and saw your reply, Never had vertigo until I had the accident, which was 10yrs. ago The first episode lasted for about two weeks within a month of having the accident, I had another couple of episodes after, but only lasted about a week each but had problems more with migranes as well and did have to take medication everday for them for several yrs. I never stopped having neck problems, special pillows ect., stress, computer ect. will set my neck off. I've had a few minor episodes of vertigo since but I've been able to get it under control with-in a day with heat and anti-inflamatories.
My daughter has had a couple of episodes of vertigo, one in November last year, lasted about 4-5 days. Never had a neck injury, hasn't consulted a Dr. either.
Holding on to walls just to walk, I was afraid to drive, but did if I had to. I can't imagine what it must be like to have it as long as you have. Did you ever have a neck injury or auto accident?
I had orthostatic hypotension on and off for years. That's a bit different than vertigo, but some things worth checking out...
Vitamin/mineral deficiencies (B vitamins, magnesium)
Heavy metals (amalgams, tap water)
Low adrenal or thyroid function
Spine or neck misalignment (nerves control many organs)
Food allergies/Intolerances (MSG, aspartame, gluten) can last for days, so the triggers are not always obvious
If you can find a Naturopathic doctor, by all means do it. I spent 16 years being bounced to every kind of specialist one can name. When I found an ND, she was able to do quite a bit more.
I have had a few bouts with vertigo as well. the worst came on suddenly and lasted almost 6 wks. I saw a chiropractor. this helped the most. The first bout was so severe that I went to regular physician. It was the benign positional vertigo. the chiropractic adjustments really made a big difference. so, if I feel the vertigo even slightly, I make a trip to see him. It seems like something I just have to deal with. I have also read that there are physical therapists who specialize in the treatment of vertigo.
