PROBLEM is........she feels something in her throat. It's really bothering her--a lot! She's been through this before when she had multiple cysts on one side of her thyroid gland. They removed it and left the gland on the right side. that was about 8 years ago.
Now,out of the blue comes the symptoms again-but on the other side.
So she goes to the doc and the doctor barely touches her throat, orders the levels and when they came out ok, the doctor was just going to dismiss the SYMPTOM!!! WTH?? Doctors these days are useless. One must go on and tell them what is wrong and what test they need. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh.
So my daughter tells the nurse who called with the test results that she expected the levels to be ok and that doesn't stop the feeling that something is in her throat. duh!!! So duh nurse says if it continues, they will refer her to a specialist. Of course!!

Rant over............

HOLY SMOKES! I am so sorry!

You may find some interesting information at this website - https://www.drbrownstein.com/about.php Dr Brownstein has studied and written books and articles about thyroid and iodine deficiencies - that are very interesting (you can find him on You Tube as well). I read one of his books, "Iodine, Why You Need It, and Why You Can't Live Without It" - it was very informative. Maybe check the book reviews on Amazon as well. And one interesting thing to me was the connection (or disconnection) between iodine and breast cancer (for example, they apparently cannot give lab rats breast cancer until they deplete their iodine levels!) ref Breast Cancer Choices Supplement Strategy - Iodine This link also includes articles about iodine/thyroid. Hope you find it as helpful and interesting as I did (and I'm still reading / learning).

This really interests me. I think I have this same problem and unable to find a Dr. to check. I had the blood test and all came back fine, but I have the symptoms of a thyroid problem which have been dismissed to "its all in my head". I've been to 3 Dr.s.. including a GI Dr. I agree with your assessment that they aren't much help.. Drs.. It's driving me insane.

A little OT but a blood draw every year?

I get mine drawn every 5 yrs for cholesterol etc... I'm turning only 39 so maybe it changes when you get older? I know I get to get squished every year once I turn 40. And I am sure when I turn 40, they are going to take a bunch of blood to run all of the standard tests on it.

I could care less about getting stuck, just curious if healthy people with no chronic condition or sxs that require further investigation get a blood draw every year. I understand if you have anemia, high cholesterol, etc....Should I be asking for a CBC, etc...?

Actually I will qualify the getting stuck part, since the tech blew my vein with a huge needle a month ago - I could care less about getting stuck as long as they use the right sized needle.

They cannot have done it without sticking me though. I have not been stuck at a regular exam since I was 35. The recent blood test I mention was a specific one, not part of a yearly exam.

Yup. I didn't start feeling symptoms of my thyroid disease until I was 41.

Don't count on it, demand it. I had to insist that blood be drawn and that it be tested specifically for hypothyroidism, because my doctor initially poo-pooed the notion that I could have it. You simply have to take control of your own health.

Next time ask them to use a butterfly needle.

Oh yeah, after the tech blew out my vein, she came back with a butterfly. I can actually handle something a bit larger than a butterfly, but the first needle was enormous - I remember thinking that when she came at me with it.

BTW, I am not the OP - as far as I can tell my thyroid is doing OK for now. Wish I did have an excuse for the 15 lb weight gain besides sitting on my butt all day!
