There is no guarantee in life. At least they are trying and doing their best, if they weren't pushing it through because they aren't 100% proof positive (which takes a great deal of time) this thread would be about how they aren't doing anything.

I don't think it's good they are rushing things through, but people are demanding it and if you're damned if you do and damned if you don't...you might as well do something.

No drug is ever 100% proof positive, but vaccines fall into high risk drug group.
Look what happened in the 70s with the vaccine then.
I work in clinical trials and I will be trying to find out as much as I can before even consider the vaccination-if I have a choice.
We do not have accurate figures for swine flu cases as they are no longer swabbing,in fact here in the UK they are diagnosing over the phone-telling people not to go to their GP or ED,and presribing Tamiflu. Funny how they didn't close the schools early though.People are just phoning up to get the drugs and stockpiling them.

If vaccine makers were held accountable for the safety of their vaccine, then I would agree they are probably doing their best.

But since there is now a new law that exempts vaccine makers from any and all liability, where is their incentive to do their best?

Becasuse if they are neglaigent they can be criminally prosecuted. Rememeber that the FDA has tyo pass the vacine for use. All aloowing suits does is open up cost ligation which we all pay for . If we want cheaper health care that is go to be one of the cost;tpoher side it like all liabilty is going to keep driving up all medical cost. The governamnt for expample is exempt as are judges.

An American law or a world wide law that includes Australia?

The FDA is a joke. They are bought and paid for. Look how many things they approved only to find out later they were harmful and caused many deaths.

Here is the problem, people want it now and want it safe and effective. The problem is that those are mutually exclusive, you must have time to test. Personally I think they should have time to test it. Plus, since the FDA doesn't cover Australian drug testing, any ranting against it in this case is irrelevant.

No one wants a repeat of problems associated with the 1976 vaccinations, but the numbers are vastly different. People died as a result of increases in Guillain-Barré syndrome that the vaccine caused (no one is sure why), and 25 people died out of 40 million inoculations (0.0000000625%). This is more then the swine flu that year. While this year 700 people, nearly 25 times the amount that died in relation to the vaccine in 1976, have died from the Swine Flu this year. Still less then the normal flu though.

I wouldn't take it. I'd rather take my chances with the flu. I am uncomfortable being a guinea pig.
