I am looking for some ideas in controlling excema in my 3 yr old
she has had it for about 2 yrs, she is so itchy and scratches all night, Her poor skin is discolored and she always looks like she has poison ivy
allergy tested: allergic to nothing
We have done aquafor, vanicream
protopic
ellidel cream and locoid
combined with singulair, and allegra liquid, and we are getting no results
She has had impetigo from the open wounds, and I am fearful of mrsa
I am interested in a natural approach that doesn't require swallowing supplements. when she was a little younger we did try evening primrose oil, but will not take it, (pierced liquid cap squeezed in her mouth)
we had the worst time with eczema until we tried cerave cream. that really worked. we also give her omega 3 fatty acids (flax seed) in our food, but the big plus was the cerave. fantastic.
My oldest brother had excema as a baby. My mother always said it got really bad following any vaccines. She told her md about it and he dismissed it.
Later as a teen it got worse. He was tested for allergies and was found to have an allergie to eggs which he DIDN'T have as a child. Strange I know.
Once he started detoxing and eating organic and limiting and basically eliminating dairy it started to get better. My brother now is a chiro and nutritionist and his own son has/had excema and had a childhood completely different than his above.
He treated his son's by having him drink Erka Shizheng Herbal Tea twice a day and soaked him in an herbal bath for 20 minutes daily. They also applied an herbal cream to his skin two or three times a day and had accupuncture treatments.
I have a friend who swears by probiotics for her son's eczema.
My kids only get very mild eczema in the winter and when it flares up, 1% hydrocortisone cream worked for it. Sounds like yours is a lot worse.
My baby (now 2) cannot drink milk at all and has to limit cheese b/c he gets an eczema-like rash. For whatever reason, yogurt is fine and he has no reaction to it. Like someone else said, I would not eliminate entire food groups without the guidance of a RD or ped, but maybe cut dairy down to just yogurt (and possibly even get plain and sweeten it yourself) and see if there is any help at all.
I had a friend whose son had failure-to-thrive and horrible eczema with impetigo but he turned out to be allergic to all sorts of food.
Please, please don't categorically remove any food groups from a 3 year old's diet without consulting with your pediatrician and/or a nutritionist!
A three year old can live without (and be healthy) the three well known internal allergens that I listed.
