Was wondering if anybody has totally quit drinking for an extended period of time ? Did you see or feel better because of it ?

For the last 3 seasons of Lent , I gave it up, and felt pretty darn good. But I did go back to being a
social drinker. I'm considering abstaining for the month of August, but it is hard to do in the summertime, seems like most activities involve a beer afterwards, lol. Now that I think about it, September after Labor Day might be a more realistic time frame for me.

I just quit in my early 60's or so, I'm 79 soon. For me and I was a social drinker for many years, wines, some beer, hard stuff too.....I feel FREEDOM and know my body likes me better even though I deal with bodywide arthritis. For my wine antioxidant fix, it's grape seed ex in a capsule. And love not giving my money to the alcohol industry

It depends on how much you drink and how it effects your life. I am a social drinker and I love wine. If I see the scale start to creep up the first thing I ditch is the booze. But I really don't notice a difference of feeling better other than my workouts are a little better.

It doesn't affect me at all. I'm fine having the occasional drink and I'm fine not having it. I don't notice any difference in my overall health.

I gave up alcohol completely for a number of years and didn't see any difference at all. I'm just an occasional social drinker though, not an alcoholic. I'm sure an alcoholic would notice a difference.

I don't really have a BAN on booze, but I have not had a drink in a long time.

Just really giving it a break for a while......never have been a big drinker.

I feel so crappy in the morning these days, I can't imagine what it would be like if I went back drinking at night.

Yep! And I won't ever touch the stuff again.i feel so much better I can't even put it into words. All alcohol was doing for me anymore was making me sick. Even just thinking about the taste, smell and what it makes me feel like is enough to keep me away from it. I have friends who drink. A couple who live their lives around it. They drink every day, as soon as they get home until they go to bed. I didn't want to even get close to that.

I don't miss it at all. I've also seen alcohol completely destroy lives. I didn't need any convincing to cut it out of my life.

I've done 6 month stints without drinking, some shorter ones too. A drink here or there is OK, but when I let my guard down and drink too much for an evening, not so happy the next day. THose days make me want to give it up for good. That day could be coming.

I rarely drink as it is. Giving alcohol up for good would have virtually no effect on my health. I'll continue to have the occasional beer or cocktail.
