Hi All ..... I woke up this morning with my left ankle VERY sore and starting to swell..... feels like a bad sprain..... i did my usual 2.5 mile walk with my dog last night with no problems and the ankle was fine when i went to bed.....

i have torn all of the ligaments in both ankles at various times in my life (i am 49 now), so am very familiar with the symptoms of a bad sprain.....

this feels and is behaving EXACTLY like a bad sprain, and in fact, is continuing to swell over the last couple or 3 hours..... but i did nothing to cause it....

any ideas??

Well I just got over being dehydrated and my old knee thing was really killing me I think due to that and a bit of hyperextension, muscle imbalance. Perhaps that is your issue too? Ice packs are our friends!
And a bunch of water to drink as well!

SERIOUSLY doubt i am deydrated .... i drink, on average, 2 20 oz bottles of water a day, probably 20 or more oz of koolaid and some iced tea and coffee.....

and our weather is continuing to be unseasonably cool, so i hardly break a sweat while walking my dog......

Thats only 60 oz of fluid plus diuretics (coffee & tea) That really is not enough unless you only are about 100lbs. You want to drink half your weight in ounces and add a glass for whatever diuretic type beverage you have.

So you had no injury that you are aware of and you have lower leg swelling that is worsening?

You should get yourself to an ED for an ultrasound of your leg.....as in now....

Ice for the swelling; heat for the healing.
