Well, hopefully, said laceration has been repaired, either with a bandaid 'cause they waited too long getting y'all's opinion or with a stitch or two, because common sense prevailed
I also said what I would and wouldn't do and stated facts that show there are no studies that prove safety AND tetnus is extremely rare in the US.
Perhaps tetanus is rare in the United States because almost every child receives a tetanus shot and many adults receive the booster shots.
My grandmother's death certificate shows she died of tetanus (in her early thirties), from a lacerated finger she received in an auto accident. I also had an uncle die of tetanus when he was about 5 years old. Neither, of course, had the tetanus shot.
Do people ever die from eating their supper? It's rare. But I guess according to you, no one should eat supper
If you look back I was responding to the a poster/s who assumed that even though tetnus is rare in this person's situation you should still take all of the precautions to prevent it.
So I simply was pointing out that vaccine inserts claim that seizures are rare but possible and death is rare but possible too.

That is all. Simple dimple
You STILL don't get it...
Yes, tetanus is rare...
Yes, the vast majority of educated, intelligent people believe that "even though tetanus is rare in most situations of open wounds, ALL necessary precautions should be taken to prevent it"....
Why is that??
Why is tetanus so rare in this country?
Maybe because of widespread vaccination programs and constant vigilance by health care professionals to ensure in every patient encounter that vaccinations like tetanus are up to date?
Why the concern over such a "rare" disease like generalized tetanus?
Maybe because the overall mortality rate is 45% for those infected?

And many many many many people including doctors believe that the reason tetanus is so rare is NOT because of the vaccine.
In mid 1800's, the number of cases ran around 200 per 100,000 and dropped to about 0.4 per 100,000 by 1947. Thsi was not because of the widespread use of the vaccine rather because more people were understanding what caused this disease and the development of way better wound hygiene.
Even after 1947, the number of cases declined gradually. With other vaccines like smallpox there was an immediate and dramatic decline in the disease after the vaccine was introduced. However there was NOT an immediate or dramatic decline after the Tetanus vaccine.
The Tetanus bacteria CAN and does lie dormant in the ground,BUT IS PRIMARILY a host on ANIMAL POOP.
The greatest danger is for those who use manure as fertilizer in their gardening.
But yes, I do realize the death rate is high if contracted. However, if you know how it can be transmitted and where the likely places are to contract it and you practice good wound care, the chances are slim and "IMO" a shot is worthless and meaningless in most cases.
it's rare because most of the general public keeps up with vaccinations. If you have the vaccine already you don't get it.
