I have been experiencing this constant chest pressure (tightening) throughout the day for last 2 months. I had this symptom last June 08 for the first time and went to ER. ER doctor thought it was acid reflux and gave me Prevacid. I took it for two weeks, and symptom were gone.

Until this year (June again), I kept having this chest pressure. It's not pain but serious discomfort. Burping seems only way to release the pressure. I have been avoiding fatty food and eat small portion. Sometimes, I feel better after eating something. It gets worse at night.

I did Ultrasound for my gall bladder (no stones) and did Nuclear Medicine Test (sorry not sure the exact name). The results shows that my gall bladder is not functioning --only 19% (not sure what that means).
My family doctor recommended to remove my gall bladder, but I wanted to get a second opinion. I went to see a doctor in gastroenterology and did upper GI. He told me that there was minor inflammation in my stomach. He doesn't think that my constant chest pressure is due to my stomach. Also, he doesnt think it's necessary to remove my gall bladder.

I have been taking nexium for almost two months and still have this chest pressure on and off throughout the day.

Is it possible to have these symptoms from seasonal allergy? I don't know what kind of doctor I need to see. Do you think it's stress related (my doctor thinks so)?

Sorry to hear about your discomfort,
Consulting an MD is in your best interest, no one here can make
a medical determination.

However, I did have something similar many years ago, I was seeing a chiropractor at the time, he did some adjustments and it went away,
never had it again, but see your MD first.

They did all of those test on me and I almost died......It was my heart.... Had it not been for my wife telling the Doctor there was something wrong or I would not be there I would have died.. Only after she jumped his butt did he send me to a cardiologist. He wanted me to have surgery the next morning, I was told there was no real reason I was still alive. My heart was that bad..

Have it checked...I was told the same things you are being told..

My b/f recently had the EXACT symptoms, thought he was actually having symptoms of a heart attack. Went to the doctor, was given Nexium and did a chest xray and ekg and he is doing a lot better. Cholesterol was high, changed his diet a bit, laid off salt, caffeine, etc.. and doing a lot better. The doc (who is pretty good) said that a lot of time, reflux can present and feel like chest pain / heaviness / tightness.

First of all, I am not a doctor but I will tell you to get to a Cardiologist as soon as you can. Any kind of chest pressure, I don't care what the supposed reason, is REASON to err to the side of caution with a checkup by a Cardiologist. I have had the symptoms you speak of and did go to the ER for it and was diagnosed with Costiochronditis which is inflammation of the tissues between the ribs and chest wall due to trauma. I had open heart surgery about 18 months ago and if I do too much work around the house or over exert, I get this inflammation.

When I talked with my Cardiologist after my visit to the ER he told me that if you are having chest pain or pressure and you are doubting whether or not you should go to the hospital for it..GO. End the could be this's and could be that's with a good workup at the Cardiologist's office. Most insurances pay for the testing and you will be insuring yourself and your family that all is well in that area.

Good Luck.....keep us posted

Anxiety can certainly cause chest tightness (angina). I have had problems with it for over a decade, it comes and goes.

You certainly needs to see a doctor right away, probably a cardiologist just to be safe. Stress can do amazing things yes. It doesn't sound like acid reflux. Gall bladder surgery is major surgery and really shouldn't be done if not needed.

I get this too. When I'm under anxiety or pressure, even just talking about serious matters or exerting myself trying to explain something intense for 10-15 minutes, I get this tightening in my chest. It goes away with a few hours rest, maybe even a nap afterwards. An x-ray for TB showed lungs clear but "mild biapical pleural thickening" and "mild aortic elongation". I wonder if this has anything to do with the condition, especially the pleural thickening. I'm 58 male BTW in otherwise excellent health, but it's been getting progressively worse over the last 10 years.
