Generally, no contact sports for 2 -4 weeks. Some physicians say 6. I don't guess surfing is a contact sport, but if you're concerned about it, sounds like the same rules might apply. If you have been diagnosed, you should simply ask your dr about his recommendation.
i believe it might be easy to burst my spleen with some of the tricks i do when i surf, it takes a lot of flexibility, but my doctor said next week i could surf, i think i should wait longer.
Its a case by case basis. I had it and just went to school etc because my parents did not believe me that I was ill. Long story short I ended up having take 3 months off school and stay in bed because my liver and spleen were swollen so badly. After the first appt the doctor said he may of recc a hospital stay if it did not improve. (it did)
But just rest. The more you do the sooner it is over.
I would not surf either just because sometimes you just instantly get this wiped out feeling with mono. And that would be super dangerous in the water.
Well when you get over it you usually get this rash and your fever goes down. But you still need to get probed by a doctor to check for swelling. There are low cost clinics that bill on a sliding scale or take payments. Call your local health department and ask for the locations.
i dont have health insurence and cant afford to go to the doctor Mod cut: rude, language.
You can go to an urgent care facility. Most urgent care will charge $80 to $100 for a visit. You will also be seen by a physician or a nurse practioner unlike Minute Clinic which is usually staffed by unsupervised Physician Assistants. Let's be honest, you spend more than $100 on beer for a weekend
I also know many doctors who will charge a reduced fee if you are paying cash. One family medicine physician I know charges people $60 for a visit if they lack insurance and are paying cash. Call some doctors' offices in your area. Tell them you lack insurance but want to be seen and if he charges reduced rates if you are paying cash.
