You need to address HR and then an attorney or legal aid if necessary. I do believe in certain states, under certain circumstances (this recent epidemic may qualify) a hospital may require shots in some positions, but you may be able to go through some sort of appellate process. Start with HR then move on to a lawyer. However, be prepared that you may be out of work until the peak season has passed (without pay). It could mandated because it could be a liabilty issue.
would someone please post the law making this legal? Until the OP sees the law, the mandate thing is just so much Mod cut: language
Depends on the state and local government. Each jurisdiction is different. OP needs to ask HR for the mandate. As an example cut and paste this link. Its more common that you might think.
They can't force you to take a flu shot and that's law. If they fire you over it, expect to go to court and settle big. I hate when people sue in general but this is a legitimate course of action in this case.
Wrong, in some cases it could be mandatory (health care workers in a hospital).
They are having flu shot clinics at my place of employment and I assume they will be writing down names and checking people's names off on a list. I work at a hospital. I am very upset and worried about this. Losing sleep over it. They claim that it is "mandatory." I assume what this means is you get fired if you don't take it. If you say you got it elsewhere you have to have a form with very detailed info on it, telling when, where, who gave it to you, etc.
What should I do? I am thinking about quitting over this.
You work in a hospital, yes is mandatory for most people (if not all, depending on state and your contract)
Not quite correct. The WHO (World Health Organisation) recently decided on this for health care workers and there's been a LOT of opposition to it. Google "mandatory vaccinations" and you'll find a slew of recent information and news articles about many health care worker groups who adamantly oppose such a program.
The WHO does not and never did make federal or state laws.
I am a healthcare worker. As usual they offer us free vaccination due to our high risk of exposure. No mention of anyone being mandated to vaccinate. Just not true. I work for the biggest health care facility in PA, UPMC.
The WHO makes global recommendations not laws.
In NY (at least NYC) is mandatory (at least for me it is).
in my last job nothing came across my desk that was not stamped "mandatory" and "priority".
