Thanks, I've been looking for a container for someone who also uses insulin.

What do you do with it when its filled up? I use Enbrel, have a Sharps container filled up, enbrel is sending me another one, but what do I do with the used needles?

Every state has different rules. In CA & 2003, we had a rabbit who had an infectious disease. We had to give it injectable medicine. The vet said to put the needles in a milk container (or similar) & then fill it with something like dry spackle, wet the powder, shake, let it set & dry, then toss in the trash. When I told my Oregonian workmates, they said that's illegal in OR.
Sometimes the local trash disposal company or fire department has a program to collect disposable sharps.

I just dropped mine off at the laboratory in my local hospital. Some pharmacies take them too.

Great question, we were told that nobody will take the filled container - wrap it up really well with tape and toss in the trash (I really hate that idea though).

With all due respect, I'd call the trash collecting company and ask if that's legal... it certainly may not be deemed safe...

The sharps container will be labeled with "Bio Hazard" or just the emblem. It is against the law to just toss those containers. I take mine to the fire department and they take care of disposing of it for me.

I'm taking blood thinner shots at home right now. The biohazard container I was given is full and I didn't know what to do with the syringes since I still have about 10 more shots to go. I took it to the lab when I went for blood work today and they said to put them in an empty detergent bottle or milk bottle, seal it and mark it "Sharps" and put it into the regular trash. When I got home, I wasn't sure that seemed right so I called the Kaiser pharmacy and they told me to do the same thing. Will the trash collection company really see the container marked "sharps"? It just doesn't seem like needles and syringes should be going in the regular trash, but that's what they told me to do with them.
