Which is better for kids - humidifier or vaporizer? (cold, congestion, viruses)

I'm never sure what the difference is other than temperature, and have NO clue what one to buy so I tend to vary them - one day the vaporizer and one day the humidifier.

Vaporizer. Most of the ultrasonic humidifiers blast lime scale and crud in the water into the air.

We use a vaporizer that we can add a solution to...Some kind of menthol smelling something. It helps my kids with coughs greatly!

As soon as cold weather and colds hit we use the vaporizer. The warm steam seems to help quite a bit with easing congestion and stuffy noses. I don't think viruses like it either.
