Glad you're having the ultrasound.

I gotta say these posts make me love my OB-GYN even more than I already do. She's never blown me off for anything. In fact, she's ordered ultrasounds based on heavy-period symptoms I didn't think were all that egregious. I'll be sure and thank her next time I see her.

I couldn't find a doc to listen to me. Then one year, a new one suddenly listened to my complaints. Her exact words, "Now that you are 40, this warrants some additional tests." It made me wonder if it more of an insurance issue.

For years I'd been telling Drs that I had one period a year, they never seemed concerned. Finally a good Dr I had refered me to a woman gyn/ob who, through ultrasound tests found I had precancerous polyps. She removed them but they grew back in 3 months. She was surprised how fast that happened. I had a total hysterectomy at 60. By the way, the pap tests the Drs gave me before had all come back fine.

I've been having the same problem, but I didn't need a gyno for all that. I saw a physician's assistant. When I told her of my non-stop bleeding and clots, she immediately scheduled me for an ultrasound, pap, blood work, you name it. I finally got a shot of depoprovera (sp?) last week and FINALLY stopped bleeding (after a couple of go-arounds with Seasonigue). I'm only going to see a gyno next because I told the PA I don't want hormone therapy, I want the plumbing removed. Not using it, anyway. She just said, ok, we can do that, and initiated my referral.

No fibroids, but my uterus is enlarged, right ovaries can only be seen very faintly, and the left is not showing up at all. The PA wanted to do a biopsy to test for adenomyosis, but said that can be done when the hysterectomy is performed. The gyno better darn well agree.

I'm looking forward to it.

I've spent the last 8 years telling them they could take my uterus out, but they won't do it without a medical reason. *sigh* Well tomorrow is the ultrasound, and then probably 1-2 days for my GYN to call me with the results. If nothing else at least, this GYN isn't going to take me off Depo. She says that as long as I understand the risk of bone loss, and I've upped my calcium and Vitamin D uptake I should be okay to stay on Depo.

I just want to know what's wrong instead of just treating the symptoms and masking the problem with hormonal shots every 3 months. (unless of course that's my only option)

I have my fingers crossed for you!!! I had the same problems you mentioned and after 15 (painful, frustrating and embarrassing) years of BEGGING for some kind of surgical relief I gave up and waited for menopause.

Good news is, it worked!! But hopefully you will get help NOW.

Let us know how it went. I've been trying to find a gyno that will listen to me for 12 years. Finally found one a few weeks ago and he thinks I may have endo. Going in for lap in a few weeks to see if thats what it is. Your symptoms sound very similiar to endo. If they can't find anything on ultrasound you may want to try the lap

Well, they didn't find anything on the ultrasound, so I've got to call the GYN and see what the next step is. *sigh* So much for it being easy.....

Default My doc won't listen to me either

I have been having similar issues as well. I was lucky when I was younger because my periods were regular every month. Light cramps and a period that lasted no longer than three days. I did have trouble getting pregnant however and I when I went to the fertility doctor he found that I had one small polyp, several fibroids, about four ovarian cysts and he noticed that my lining was thicker than it needed to be. He removed the polyp and the cysts and gave me a DNC to remove the extra lining. He said that the fibroids weren't big enough to bother with. Well, I finally got pregnant a year later and ever since the birth of my daughter, my periods have been going haywire. I went from normal periods to skipping periods. I went to have a check up and pap was fine and ultrasound was fine. Doctor said, " It's nothing to worry about everything is normal." I was 38 at the time. Now, I am 41 and my periods are now extremely heavy, with massive clots. My periods are lasting two weeks at a time and are really painful. I am having to change pads every couple hours now. My thyroid has been checked and it is normal. I go back to my doctor on Wednesday and I am ready to tell her to just give me a hysterectomy. I don't know why they won't listen to us.

So what's the next step?

IMO, you should stop taking the hormones, let the symptoms come back, then go for tests. The hormones are probably stopping whatever is going on.

You don't say how old you are; a lot of women start having the same issues in the late 30's, early 40's. The answers are to either use hormone birth control or to have a procedure.

I'm the same way, clots every month & I was the lightest bleeder all of my life. I've had 2 cysts rupture. My insides are painful during my cycle & when I ovulate but I deal with it because I don't want hormones, nor do I want surgery. If I was bleeding really heavy I might.

After reading about issues women have after hysterectomy, that's something I'd like to avoid.

As far as no children, if you do want them, you should see a specialist.
