I need 8 hours and sometimes, when I don't have to get up, I can sleep for 10. But when I do that I'm sort of "off" for the rest of the day. It's like too much sleep makes me lazy.

6-7 hrs per night.
They sya it's good to get the same amount of sleep each night, and that each hour you sleep before midnight is worth 2 of hours after midnight regarding allowing your body to do all the things it does when you're asleep!
If I get more than 8 hours sleep, or if I doze in the morning at weekends I feel awful.
You need less sleep as you get older, assume because your metabolic rate drops so body doesn't need as long to recover overnight.

The ability to sleep is actually a blessing, it seems, as I've heard many people 50+ say when they reached a certain age they have trouble falling in asleep. Maybe there is an age factor? I know more women than men who have trouble sleeping.
