Because I have Fibromyalgia everything hurts probably ten time more, that's why I think this test might be painful to me. I also have an issue with needles that I won't get into but let's just say I'm afraid of them more than the average person. I know there's risks with anesthesia but in the past it was the only way I was able to get through some of the other procedures I've had. I was just wondering about this test because I'm thinking you have to be fully alert when they give it to you but I hope not. My appointment is tomorrow so I'll mention some of the ideas here, thank you!

oddly it hurts more giving blood. The needles that are used - sleek - smooth....it really wasn't that bad at all. I just went to my happy place....You'll be fine....

You want your body to be able to respond for accuracy. If you take something that sedates you there might not be an accurate reading.
The test is extremely annoying and not as painful as you probably know what real pain is. It is also dependent on the skill of the doctor.
I'm a real cry baby and it did hurt when the needle was inserted but not as much as not finding out what nerves work or not.
I went to my happy place too. Visualization is key in pain management.
Good Luck and breath.

I had it done on my neck down to my fingers, and while it was uncomfortable, it was not as bad as some blood tests and blood pressure cuffs I've met through the years.

It was more of a 'zinger' sensation than anything.

Just got back from the DR. and he said no to the test. He said because of my condition it would do me more harm and put me in more pain. I'm certainly not going to fight with him to take it. Thanks for all of the opinions.
