I don't see why it should matter at all, if he/she knows what is doing and doesn't cut the wrong vein, i couldn't care less if is a male or female doctor.
I used to not care about my doctor's gender, but lately I've had a lot of bad experiences with male doctors (I'm a woman). I've only had good experiences with female doctors. I have a male gyn, but no longer plan to continue going to him, and will be switching to a female gyn from now on. Overall, after all of the bad experiences with male doctors I've had in the last year or two, I think I'm going to only seek out female doctors in the future. I think they're more sensitive, caring and, quite frankly, don't have the jerk personality that most male doctors I've encountered seem to.
There are more times where I would prefer a female doctor over a male doctor. I think they listen better and they don't give me the creeps. Some male doctors creep me out.
Depends on the speciality. I only go to female gynecologists and dermatologists because I have had some bad experiences with very unsympathetic male docs in those fields. For other types of doctors gender doesn't matter to me.
When you chose a doctor the gender should be known from the get go. Then to make an appointment to see a doctor is an act of acceptance of that doctor so what's the issue here?
Going to the doctor is not supposed to be a sexual encounter now is it?
I had to see a urologist and sought out a female (I'm a male). Can't justify it. Kind of homophobic on my part, I admit. But it is what it is.
