Do most old people live at home alone (or with spouse if the spouse is living), or live with their children, or live in nursing homes? Personally I don't know any old people who live in nursing homes. Some live alone with a housekeeper or attendant. It seems not many old people live with their children, either? I would be interested to know the statistics.

Would you feel OK to send your parents to nursing homes, living among strangers?

How would you feel if your children send you to nursing homes when you are old?

This is a sensitive issue especially with the aging baby boomers.
I remember reading that the demand for nursing home beds and in particular skilled care ones is currently met by the available facilities.

Baby boomers are independent and are expected to remain in their homes for as long as possible with the help of homecare aide providers.
Also, private nursing homes have a high price tag and thus may be out of the reach of many people. However, there is long term care insurance to cover nursing home expenses for those able to afford it.

Multigenerational households make a very small percentage of today's demographic profile. So few families are actually caring for their elderly in the family home. A prolonged recession might increase the incidence of such arrangements, just time will tell.
