Well, my Dr. had moved up my DD by two weeks. Original DD 4/1/10. New date was 3/21/10. Needless to say, the baby is not here yet. I mean, my kids have never been born early. They didn't move it because my dates were off, they moved it because they said he was measuring bigger. I just don't know. My first baby was 7 lbs 1 oz second one was 6 lbs 5 oz-first one 5 days late, second born on his DD. So my induction is scheduled for tuesday 3/30/10. I think that's pretty ridiculous, to make the baby come out a few days earlier, when he could have possibly came out on his own maybe a few days later. I am just so pissed. Maybe they really know what they are doing...but most of us know our bodies. I just wish they hadn't had interfered and just let him "cook" and come out on his own time. Oh well.
Wow times have changed. I was able to let both of mine go 3 weeks over ......... I have an aunt who was 4 weeks late......but when I had my kids they were perfectly ok up to 2 weeks late, then they wanted to do some stress tests on the baby.
Every one of mine were 2 weeks early and I am not complaining about it! I was glad. The only pregnancy that was helped along was when I had my twins. I was living so far back in the sticks and my doctor was so far away.. The day of my regular appointment I had several "mountain" women that saw me, tell me I was having my babies that day, that I was in labor and just didn't know it yet. (I was uncomfortable but not in any pain) My doctor examined me and sent me to the hospital where they gave me some kind of pill and 3 hours later, they were there!
I DO think they induce a lot now rather than wait for nature, it is more convient for the doctors. Usually (in our family) when given a induce date, the Mom to be goes into labor the night before. I always laugh when that happens. So just wait, you could go into labor on your own anyway!
You don't have to go along with the induction... it's your body and your baby. Just say that you'd rather wait another week (or whatever). Or call that morning and say that you need to reschedule, and put it off for several days.

You do not have to agree to the induction. It is always better to let the baby decide when he/she is ready to be born. But if you go along with the induction do not let them break your water. If the induction is not working it can be stopped unless the water is broken. Once your water is broken they usually want the baby out within 24 hrs. Also keep you eyes on the baby's heart rate if the baby doesn't like the contractions then tell them to stop the induction. You do not want your baby to stress out and have a BM. Good luck.

Exactly, they rather schedule an induction than be woken up in the middle of the night. What they do not tell you is that if your body is not ready the induction will fail. Then they declare a "failure to progress" and of to the OR.
Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns? Maybe there is a reason they are inducing you? If it is not what you want tell your doctor. YOU are in control, not the doctor.
I agree with others who have said that you don't have to go along with the induction.
