My siblings, cousins, and I all have flat feet. I'm wondering if this runs in the family, but none of our parents have flat feet. Could it be environmental? The 5 of us used to live close together out in a woodsy area when we were younger and we'd always run around in the woods without shoes. Could this have attributed to our flat feet as well?

A lot of it is genetic and a lot of it can be if you are overweight.
Hmmm. Well, only 2 out of the 5 of us are overweight.

My unnderstanding is that it is genetic and running outside with no shoes is probably better for your feet (strength wise). I remember reading something about Kenyan runners from their youth running bare foot and then switching to shoes and having problems adjusting. I am not going to look it up though so take that with a grain of salt.
