I was diagnosed several years ago with Costochondritis - inflammation of the cartilage on the rib cage.. after having EKGs, x-rays, etc with no known cause of my chest pain..

Background: The pain is very centralized - left hand side of the sternum. Pressing on this area is extremely tender to the touch - If you poke me in the chest I will scream at you in pain. usually i would have a bout of this every 6 months of so - usually in the winter when I get a cold, etc... Lately though it is every week. One evening after reading my email I reached down - left side. and it felt as if someone took the entire side of my left rib cage and squeezed it - like you would a plastic bottle.

Recently it has tended to not only hurt in the same area it always has - but now seems to have "traveled" to my right side with less severity.

I've had the run down of cardiac tests years ago and don't have heart disease in the family, i excercise regularly and eat healthy, don't smoke, blah blah

next: - not sure if this is related or not.. comeing out of the gym one night my right wrist started hurting like hell.. Gripping anything was extremely painful and I had limited movement - however I didn't hurt it while working out (However I did lift heavy and may have put a strain on it).. I don't have any numbness. Then 2 weeks later my left ankle starting hurting like hell - I could barely walk - resting it - no pressure on it - it was fine, but after a little bit of time with pressure on it - it hurt like hell again. I had not injured it at all recently...

When I do go see my Allergy Dr I will of course mention this to him, however I don't want to make an apt with a different doc only to have them tell me to take 3 ibuprofen 4 x a day for 2 weeks... (I've been down that road) and wanted to see if anyone else out there had similar experiences... are these pain sites related in some way (cartilage/tendon/etc).. What did you do, etc...

When i have issues that are like this I keep a journal - what happened, how I treated it, etc... so when i do see a Dr - instead of him/her hearing 'i'm in pain"... I can give them the journal with frequency, time, date, etc... (in the past I even included anatomy diagrams to better describe where the pain was and what it felt like - I had a torn hip muscle with bursitis AND an ovarian cyst - oh yeah... i hurt! )..

I have to wonder if you did something to tear it up in your chest like you did your hip? You know if you keep putting strain on that area with working out it can continue to kick up that condition.
What about cancer screenings? Fibromyalgia touch test? Have you ever tried to follow an anti-inflammatory food guide? If you are not on medications and have no health issues arnica montana and aloe gel (drinkable version) are great for pain like that. Run it by your doctor just to make sure you can take it. Sometimes certain drugs have to be out of your system for a long time before you can take something else.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't done any heavy lifting for chest, but do go heavy for back muscles.
I'll check on an anti-inflamatory food regimine.. I check certain foods on nutritiondata to check for the glycemic load - but haven't paid much attention to inflamation information since my goal has been to drop body fat .. Also the aloe gel is soemthing I will be getting this weekend - my nutrtitionist has been on my case to get some of that for overall health and stomach issues.

I was diagnosed with this chronic disease years ago as well with Costochondritis - my is inflammation of the chest. One week am feeling good and the next week I feel lousy. I want it to go away for good. They don't know what caused it but I had two back to back car accidents and a cough I have for years which they say was caused by stress. Good you have a nutritionist to help you so pay attention please. Good luck and take care.
