Yes, i love flax see oil.
Barleans is my brand of choice. Barleans - World's Freshest Flax Oil
I love it on any and all cooked grains ... very yummy.
It's not to be cooked with however.
The other good way to take flax seed is to buy the seed whole and use a coffee grinder (like a Krups) and grind it very, very fine.
You can sprinkle it on all sorts of things like salads, rice, vegetable dishes, etc..

This is how I take my flax-seed. In this form, it doesn't have much of a flavor...kind of mild and nutty. I add it to my salads, my beans, my breakfast cereal.
If you grind it, grind only a small amount at a time -- probably not more than 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup -- and store it in a glass jar (with a lid) in the fridge or freezer. You only want about 1 or 2 weeks' worth on hand at a time.
I do also use the Barleans strawberry-and-banana flavored flax.
Flax seed is high in fiber and Omega-3 fatty acids.
Is flax meal essentially the same thing? I store mine in a ziploc bag in the fridge and sprinkle it on my oatmeal daily, but I'm wondering if this gives me the same benefits as whole groud flax seeds would.

Isn't flax meal just ground flax seed? (i think so)
If so, the only thing i'd say is that buying whole flax seed and then grounding daily (or even weekly) will provide you with a fresher product.
The whole seeds last much longer than ground seeds and you don't want to be eating rancid flax ... either in oil form or ground seed form.
Also, i definitely recommend organic flax seed and/or oil.
and just to add to that post ...
i grind the flax seed so that it's the consistency of powder ... it almost feels like talc.
i learned years ago that for full digestion / assimilation it needs to be ground very, very fine.
A daily dose of Barlean's flaxseed oil, on my DavesKillerBread toast, with a little dab of fig preserves ~ very yummy, high in Omega 3 essential fatty acids, helps to maintain normal cholesterol levels (along with an otherwise healthy diet)
P.S. I keep the bottle of flaxseed oil in the freezer !!

That sounds delicious Coney. I've tried to take liquid fish oil by the spoonful and am having a hard time with it (I've got the pregnancy super gag reflex). Wondering if flax oil would be a little tastier and less likely to induce the gagging.

Barlean's Flaxseed oil should taste like sweet butter; if it does not, then return it to the store. I prefer the regular flaxseed oil (NOT the highest lignan) ~ just a matter of choice.
Yes, i prefer the taste of flax oil over fish oil.
I wouldn't say that it tastes like sweet butter but i suppose taste buds are a bit subjective too?
I've been using Barlean's for years and have never had a rancidity problem with it .... it's quite fresh and is found in the fridge section of health food stores and sometimes regular markets.
