My doc told me once to clean my ears with a mixture of 1/2 alcohol and 1/2 vinegar. Seems that would be good to clean the earbuds in too. And, I believe you--moms know best. When "earbud ear" gets famous, I will remember you.

I happen to get sores inside my ear from earbuds-- especially the old Apple ones. The EarPods seem to fit better, but I still get sores from them from time to time-- it's quite hit or miss. It has nothing to do with how clean I am. I shower everyday and I clean my ears thoroughly when I do so. The skin inside your ear is very sensitive and having plastic earbuds rubbing against it constantly will rub the skin raw. I usually take a break from my earbuds for a while and stick with over the ear headphones. I clean the sores with rubbing alcohol and then pat them dry. They're really painful and the best way to get them to go away is to stop using earbuds for a while. Your ears will thank you! If I were you, I would throw away the earbuds and invest in some of the squishy ones-- tend to be less harsh on your ears-- or throw out the earbuds and get some over the ear headphones.
