Been having alot of foot pain the last year and finally went to Dr today. After she reviewed my X-rays, she determined that I have a small heel spur and arthritis. I told her that I did fall last year, but X-rays showed no broken bones...only a pulled tendon. She said that is probably what started the arthritis. Dr prscribed Meloxicam (15mg) once per day. Said it would be better then taking high doses of ibuphrophen (sorry for spelling) Has anyone on this forum taken the Meloxicam? Dr said I would have to have blood work every 3months to check my kidneys..long term use may cause kidney damage. Is there anything else I can be doing to help ease the pain? I did buy some heel support pads (Dr Scholls). I wear steel toed boots at work, but I have a sit down job, so I am not on my feet all night long (thank goodness). The boots actually feel better on my feet then tennis shoes do...but I hate to wear them all the time when I am not working. Any suggestions? The pain becomes really bad when I am not on my feet ( strange I know) and I am unable to walk when I first get up. I am actually starting to suffer more knee and hip pain..guess because I walk with a limp. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated!! Thanks!!

Ask your doctor to let you try "Arthrotec" an older but very kind effective drug for your pain. I took it for years until my knees were replaced. My wife still takes it with no ill effect but no pain either!

ARTHROTEC is a medicine that relieves the pain of arthritis while protecting your stomach.

I took Meloxicam for about a month for undiagnosible foot/ankle pain. (Blood work, MRI, and Xrays turned up nothing.) I started to develop really bad heartburn/acid indigestion on the meloxicam: hot throat, bad burping, and constant diarrhea. So I stopped taking it. Once I did, the heartburn/acid eased a bit.

Thanks for the info..have been doing some research online about the Meloxicam. Dr offered to give me Ibuphrophen (600 mg..not sure how many a day)) but said I would definately have to eat before I took them. I work third shift, so I really only eat once a day now and it would be hard for me to take them 2 or 3 times a day since I don't eat that often. Guess she figured that the Meloxicam would be better suited for me. I have also started taking a Ramitidine ( Zantac) to see if that will take care of the heart burn and indegestion. Really hope this medicine works, I was living on Tylenol or Excedrine!!

Just be aware that drugs like Zantac work by turning off (or turning down) your acid-production in your stomach. Problem with that is that you NEED acid in order to begin the digestion of your food, and thus the absorption of its nutrients, but also to kill any kind of bad bacteria that might have made it to your stomach on the food you've ingested.

Regarding the heartburn, you'd probably do better to figure out how to control it long-term via dietary changes.

When mine was acute, I did have some good success combatting it with a mixture of water, apple cider vinegar, and baking soda.

I recently found out I have arthritis in my foot. My ortho doctor referred me to a podiatrist who gave me a cortisone shot in my foot about 2 months ago, and told me to put ice on it each morning before wrapping it. I wasn't to wear slippers or go barefoot around the house anymore, but wear a pair of good tennis/sport shoes. I have to say...I'm about 99% better. I too had a limp because of the pain, but that's gone also! I was fitted for orthodic inserts for my shoes and have added them to the mix...so far, so good!!

Good luck to you!

Take Vitamin B6.
Its not a pain killer, but may help with the root of the pain.
I have arthritis of the hip. The doc said it was "moderate".
2 years ago I couldn't walk without limping and was feeling really handicapped.
Within 2 weeks of the B6 I felt like a different person.
I take B6 now and usually have no problems at all, unless I just do
too much walking.

For anyone having problems with feet, knees or hips.
Have a good doc check the alignment of your bones.
Fallen arches will completely throw you out of line and bring big time problems.

I just started taking Meloxicam two weeks ago. The pain returned as I only had a 14 day supply. I wonder if there is an alternate herbal remedy for heel pain/arthritis/plantar fasciitis? I am going to start another 14 day regimen today and hope to see an Orthopedic Doctor within three weeks. The pain is worse when getting up from sitting for a while and trying to walk. You almost need a cane.
