Where is this quote from and what book will I find this? What book pls?
"You can never be sure about anything for all time. You can only have the courage and strength to do what you think is right. It may turn out wrong, but you will at least have done it, and that is the important thing. We must act according to the best dictates of our reason, and then leave God to judge of its ultimate value. Every person has an integrity, a quality of character, and if he observes it, whatever he does will turn out well in the end. Someday you will express yourself fully, no matter what medium you may choose" - Advice given to Van Gogh at 24.

This could be someone listening to Vincent agonizing at some fork in the road, maybe about whether to continue with traditional ministry after the Borinage debacle. (Or whether to get started with it.) It's surely not a quote from a letter -- is it a speech from a movie?
There is a 1970's one man play "Vincent" by Leonard Nemoy which is based on letters between Vincent Van Gogh and his brother Theo. I saw it at the Hartke Theater in Washington DC. Perhaps your quote comes from that play. There is not much, however on the web concerning this play. Here's an old link: Vincent - A Play by Leonard Nimoy exhibit at the Dana Gallery
"I wanna live long, I wanna prosper
Of course I've cut off my left ear, before"
