Aren't ad hominem attacks the cutest things?

And, I suppose you'll tell me that the huge speed bump in Western Civilization's progress due to the Dark Ages was the result of the divine knowledge and will of some anthropomorphic entity based on allegory and the mythology of Horus.

Since we're playing the imagine game, I would transport a nuclear attack submarine (ensuring an all Indian crew...lots of canvassing of the US Navy's submarine personnel required!) to approximately the 11th of October 1492 and patrol the waters of the Caribbean. Being there on the 11th would give me a day to prepare the coming attack. I would sink any sailing ships I saw approaching...three ships in particular. The patrols of the Caribbean and Atlantic seaboards would continue until stories in Europe arose of a horrible sea monster/demon living toward the west and no ship from Europe dare attempt to cross the Atlantic.

I just wanted to say to the original poster, nancy thereader, that I bet you were a great teacher!

And for what its worth, among the hundreds of times and places I would want to go, in chronological order, the following are at the top of my list:

Later Roman Republic (In Rome itself)

Late Iron Age in Scandinavia (7th-9th centuries)

17th century Netherlands

early 19th century Hudson Valley

I'd have LOVED to have been in the room the day Bill Mauldin met Patton.

I would give anything to go back in time and see Elizabeth I address and rally her armies at Tilbury against the invading spanish forces (armada) back in 1588 as she's one of my fave idols in history

Go back in time to March 6, 2009

Then put entire savings + max out all lines of credit to buy stocks!

Another choice: October 16, 1987. Borrow as much stock as u can to short sell!

1. A tavern in Massacusetts in about 1774 or 1775. I bet lots of interesting converstation could be heard there.

2. Vicksburg Ms July 1863, the true turning point of the war of northern aggression.

3. If I could I would leave a warning to this nation during the cold war (any time between 1950 and 1989) that socialism was coming to America, but not from the Soviets or the red Chinese, but from right here at home. In the 21rst century the movie theater, the network news, the TV and the college lecture hall have spread far more leftist/socialist ideals than any Soviet army could have dreamt of doing 30 years ago.
