There are no modern day Cana'anites in the world today, just as there are no Moabites or Edomites or Phoenicians.
The Palestinians, Lebanese, and Syrians are the direct descendants of Phoenicians and Canaanites. There are also a large number of Europeans and North Africans as well as Middle Easterners who are descendants of Phoenicians.
And some of the ancestors of the Palestinians were Jews of antiquity, who converted to Christianity - many Christians, as well as Jews in the region, would later convert to Islam.
Why does Israel prosper while the Arab world does not?
Imagine if Hamas was a legitimate government--looking out for its people and developing the country--instead of a vehicle for propagating war. Don't you think there might be a little more prosperity in the region than there is? And when you venture beyond the confines of Hamas, what else have you got in places such as Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Yemen, Lebanon, etc.? To say nothing of Libya. Dictators, despots, religious fanatics...or some combination of all three (except possibly in Lebanon, which hasn't had anything like an actual government in decades). The only country in the region that comes anywhere near stability is Jordan. Did anyone expect prosperity out of all that?
Of course, if all anyone wanted to do was find yet another flimsy excuse to go off on an anti-Jewish rant, then all they had to do was mention the name of Israel, and the floodgates are open.
The bogus theory that modern day Jews are not descended from the Israelites of ancient times has been put to rest with the study of genetics, genomes, and haplogroups. Nearly all Jews today genetically belong to Haplotype J-1, which can be traced to the ancient "holy land". There's a lot of information on the genetics of Y-Chromosonal "Aaron" and haplogroup J.
Now...? No celestial hand reaches out to swat away Arab rockets, no series of plagues overwhelms Iran or Syria. Yahweh doesn't show up at Israeli military councils to provide tips or promise a suspension of natural law if needed. Yahweh doesn't visit individuals and make specific demands of them.
I wouldn't say that... Maybe G-d has decided that we are intelligent enough to take it from here so to speak, especially after this one.
Jews are God's chosen people. Thus God favors them and it is why they are so successful despite being in the Middle East - And surrounded by hostile neighbors who would like to see them eliminated.
Non Jews in the grand scheme of things, matter not as much as the Jewish state does. That includes Arab nations.
Not to mention Israel is the only place in the middle east WITHOUT oil, lol.
I take it by prosperous, you mean Israel is of 1st world status like the industrial nations of western Europe, Japan, Canada, etc.
I don't know of Israel's exact statistical figures (like standard of living), but usually on international comparison lists I don't see it listed on the level of western Europe or even places like Taiwan. It would be interesting to see where Israel ranks in regard to 2nd tier nations like South Korea and Singapore.
Israelis want to develop their country whereas the leaders of the surrounding countries have been more worried about taking care of themselves than improving the lives of their citizens.
