For many centuries humans have been through many conflicts. western civilization has became a superpower since its beginning. It all started when Greece/ Macedonians conquered the all powerful Persian Empire.

This war is known basically for to create a vast empire scross the mediterranean. I see that much of the greeks where very knowledgable of their fierce enemies. Yet at one time all of Greece and the western world was quite divided.

The war between athens & sparta where quite bloody. The athenians thought the Spartans where "barbarians" that claim themselves superior to the other. This lead to many battles including the pelloponesion wars which are basically battles that are not just competitive but very ideological.

For one the reason why the battle ceased over time was because they lost more than they gained and they soon joined forces to fight the Persians who declared war to take all of "western civilization" from them. Some might add that the persians where quite more knowledgable when it came to terrain yet the Persians weapon of choice was what brought their downfall.

As persia created a group called "the immortals" which where called that because when a soldier died it was easily replaced. Though the persians bow and arrows where faster. The spartans as well as the athenians chose a shield and armor while the persians did not wear armor. So the battles of Persia failed when the "big turn around happened" the rise of western civilization started at the battle of "marathon." That battle was a huge victory for the newly found alliance.

The Western World grew, IT started in Greece and it spreaded east to near east Asia and central asia for a time but Western Civilization grew in Italy and other parts of Western Europe due to the Roman Empire and its acceptance of Greek culture and thinking which they preserved. Another thing that was created by a mix of Greek culture and semitic culture was Christianity. Greeks conquered the middle east and Greek culture remained in the middle east well into Roman times and Greek was a spoken language in the near east. The old and new testaments were also written in Greek and the Christ means chosen one or Messiah in Greek. Greek Polythiesm and myths fused with Judiac faith help start and spark Christiantiy which will spread through out Europe and become the dominant religion of the western world by the 5th century AD. Germanic tribes adopted Roman customes for a time but later after the fall of Rome much of Western culture declined in Western Europe but it was preserved in the Eastern Roman Empire. During the Crusades scholors and scribes and learned about Greek and Roman past which began to spread slowly but Western culture and teachings picked up in Italy with Greek refugees after the fall of Constantinople to the Islamic turks in 1453. Nation States of Spain, England,Portugal and France emerged which will replace Italian citystates. These three nations will create Empires which have a pronlonged effect on earth for quite somtime. Spain Emerged as a dominante power for 200 years, then France and after France it was Britain, Napoleon had a profound impact on Western Civlization he recodefied the Justinian Code created the Napoleonic which will be the dominant law for most countries on Earth.

The Orient grew a bunch of great civilizations of their own at the same time they developed in Europe. There were great Indian, Chinese, Mongolian, Zulu, and Moorish empires that arose side by side with the West. Some knew nothing about the others, and some did. Europe spread to the west, the others to the east, south and north.
Japan had a great empire for hundreds of years, but was totally unknown to the west until the middle of the 19th century.
It all depends on where a person wants to look.

Her prediction was if the leader of the spartans did not die in battle all of western civilization would be at stake her prophecy was true yet soon the spartans would gain their vengence and reclaim all of Western civilization from the persians....hahh love this prophecy at heart...

While the Greeks were a very important ancient civilization, I think you are seriously underestimating the contributions of numerous other civilizations, both Western and Eastern.
