A Brit named Florence Green, who joined the Women's RAF and served in WWI died on Saturday, Feb 4 at the age of 110.
My grandfather, a midwest farmer, served in WWI and it must have been pretty bad because he would never talk about it, no matter how much prompted by my cousins. I never heard him say even one word about it.
The machine gun had been invented by Hiram Maxim, an American who emigrated to become a Brit, not too much earlier around 1880. Unlike the nuke, there was no compunction about using it.
