As any student of western history knows, both sets of brothers ended their careers in crime at the hands of citizens while attempting daylight bank robberies.

All three surviving Younger brothers (Cole, Jim and Bob) were wounded and captured at Northfield, MN in 1876.

Three members of the Dalton clan (14 or 15 of them) who made up the Dalton Gang (Bob, Gratt and Emmit) were either killed or captured while attempting to rob two banks at once in Coffeyville Ks. in 1892.

What many may not know is that the Mother of the Dalton's was Adeline Younger Dalton, a sister of the Younger brothers.

It's as if murder, robbery and stupidity ran deep in the Younger bloodline.

I've always heard that the idea to rob both banks at once was because the James Younger Gand had never did that and the Daltons wanted to be bigger than them..

Another interesting side note:
Bob Younger got his lip and the tip of his nose shot off during the Northfield raid. For the rest of his life, he wore a sliver prosthesis to hide his disfiguration.

In the movie 'The Ballad of Cat Ballou", Lee Marvin played a double role as a drunken gunfighter who had to face himself as a real bad guy. The bad guy Marvin played had a tin nose.

Tin noses may have been rare, but not unknown back then. For instance, some people who had been captives of the plains Indian's wore them to hide a disfiguration caused by being kept awake by an application of a burning stick to the nose.

But, I did not know that about Younger. Thanks.
