What would the current population demographics of the US be like, if no immigrants had ever been admitted? What factors would you need to take into account, in trying to estimate the nation's population dynamics, if all population growth had arisen from the original settlers from the British Isles, along with the Native Americans, and people from Spain, France and Mexico in the territories that we conquered and seized as spoils of war?

I think we'd end up with a backwards society.

Meetings would never start on time.

Never? Since when? The continent was populated by people who came from somewhere else.

I heard that there were 75 million people in America prior the arrival of Europeans ...people have this impression that the place was empty except for a few natives...Internal displacement of the population by immigrants has been going on from the start. As we displaced the natives..now the classic white person is being displaced...goes around comes around.

Actually it was 30 million native Americans estimated, from the top of my head...

Your criteria was "original settlers from the British Isles." Now, does mean the Irish could still have immigrated? A hollow triumph it would be if we had managed to keep out all that other trash yet still had to endure Regis Philbin.

However, I think it would have been a poor idea. There would have been no "Godfather" movies. With no one around against whom to be bigoted, the "All In The Family" premise would never have been developed. The Rat Pack gets reduced to Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. No Jolting Joe, no Roy Campanella, no Yaz, no Rocky Balboa. No Knute Rockne or Tony LaRussa.

No Albert Einstein, no Arnold the Barbarian. No Ike, no Mira Sorvino. No John Belushi. "LOOOOseee, joo gots some 'splain' to do" would have come out "Lucy, you have some explaining to do."

No Chinese restaurants, probably no fast food restaurants because they couldn't find anyone willing to work in them, a factor which might also kill the giant Box Stores and cripple the NYC taxi fleet.

Not covered in your premise was the status of slaves. Would the immigration ban have included them? If so, there goes about half of all the Olympic medals the US has won. There never would have been a reason to write "To Kill A Mockingbird" or film "In The Heat of the Night." No Chuck Berry, no Louis Armstrong, no Don King no President Obama.

And there we would have the triumph of the bland.

When are we drawing the line? Some Germans and Dutch arrived pretty early in the colonial period before or during the time many of our Brit ancestors crossed over. Being "admitted" didn't happen until well after the founding of our Republic. Mainly you'd be missing Italians, Eastern Europeans, Irish, and 1850 era Germans.

I'm not aware of any slaves in his background. His father was Kenyan (and not an immigrant) and his mom was of British descent I believe.

jtur's premise was no immigrants at all save direct descendants of "the original settlers from the British Isles" which would seem to exclude folks with Kenyan blood, slaves or no slave.

It is jtur's hypothetical, so you should probably press him for specific rulings.
