Just finished reading a book on the eleven day search for Booth and the assassination. It managed to pull all the disparate accounts into one cogent story and was a pretty good read. Booth's original plan was to kidnap Lincoln (before the war's end), but when he went to the place Lincoln was supposed to be, Lincoln was at the hotel where Booth had been staying. He also had been in a prefect position to kill him at the inauguration.

LOL! Had to check the cover online. Yep. It was a book group choice and I didn't pay much attention to the title. The author is apparently from Huntsville. I didn't have any disputes with it, which is rare for me. Decent book, easy read.
Wasn't it? Another good one is April 1865. You can get a really good overview of the country during the Civil War just from reading that one book.
And while we're on the subject...earlier tonight I watched The Conspirator, about the trial of Mary Surratt. While they took some license with historical accuracy, as all movies do, it did send me scurrying to the Internet for a couple of hours to read up on more details.
